Nikos Papanikolaou

Hello! I am Nikos a physicist trasitioning to Machine Learning. Currently, I am an ELLIS- PhD student at the Empirical Inference group in Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen where I have the good fortune to be supervised by Prof. Bernhard Schölkopf and Prof. Markus Reichstein.

I work on Causal ML on Earth Systems. More specifically, I am focusing on Causal Digital Twins with applications in Earth Systems to bridge data-driven methods with models using causal inference techniques.

Prior to this, I studied statistical physics with applications in active matter, neuroscience and social systems.

My research interests are related to Causal ML, Hybrid Models, AI4Science and Complex Systems.

Outside of work, my hobbies are music , theater , cycling , hiking .
